Anatomie de “Sine Modus”

Sine Modus nasce nel 2012 dall’amicizia tra Chiara e Manuela, e dalla loro passione per il vintage. Lo scorso ottobre Sine Modus ovvero Chiara e Manuela hanno aperto il loro store Sine Modus Milano in via Pomponazzi 22.

I turbanti Sine Modus sono realizzati a mano, con stoffe che deriviamo da capi vintage o second-hand scelti con cura e tanta selezione per avere così tessuti esclusivi: gonne, camicie, abiti vengono smontati per essere rielaborati nella forma di questi splendidi copricapi.

Il turbante è un accessorio sofisticato ed elegante che ricorda le dive hollywoodiane degli anni 70 e che resta un pezzo immancabile nel guardaroba di ogni donna.

Com’è nata la vostra passione per la moda vintage?
La nostra passione si può dire risalga alla nostra infanzia, quando entrambe andavamo ai mercatini dell’usato, molto frequenti giù da noi in Campania, dove puoi trovare dei capi meravigliosi, delle vere chicche, dei tesori di tessuto, semplicemente rovistando un po’ nel mucchio di “panni” che gli ambulanti vendono a poco. Fra le “pezze americane” (così le chiamano al sud) è nato tutto. Poi chiaramente ci siamo documentate, abbiamo approfondito l’argomento e allora è subentrata una maggiore ricerca, in negozi specializzati, spesso anche a Londra.

Che cosa vi ispira?
Ci ispira unicità, esclusività, eleganza, personalità.

Come si indossa il turbante?
Non c’è una regola per indossare un turbante, va bene sempre, in qualsiasi momento della giornata, con qualsiasi stile, è un accessorio da portare con disinvoltura, solo così ti “vestirà”, regalandoti quel tocco in più, che fa la differenza.

Dove trovate i tessuti per realizzare i vostri turbanti?
I nostri turbanti vengono realizzati a mano da noi, nel nostro laboratorio qui a Milano e impieghiamo tessuti che ricaviamo da capi vintage. Molto spesso succede che vecchie gonne, vestiti, camicie presentino tessuti e fantasie meravigliose, ma magari qui o lì un po’ rovinati o obsoleti nello stile, da qui la scelta di ridare loro nuova vita.

l tubino in macramè, un montone, un Borsalino, un gioiello, un trench di Burberry.

Di quali abitudini passate e forse perse sentite di più la nostalgia?
Io ho nostalgia del risveglio nella mia casa d’origine, a Paestum, dove ancora abitano i miei genitori, svegliarsi lì significa fare colazione con loro e poi andare a fare una passeggiata al mare, gesti semplici, ma che riempiono il cuore. Manu: “il pranzo domenicale dalla nonna materna.

Come nasce l’idea di un negozio a Milano?
E’ stata la naturale evoluzione del nostro lavoro, portato avanti negli ultimi due anni sui social e con il nostro sito internet. Avevamo bisogno di un laboratorio e di un luogo fisico dove poter interagire personalmente con le clienti, poiché lo scambio, di pareri e valori, dal vivo dà un valore aggiunto al nostro lavoro.

L’angolo preferito del vostro negozio
Più che un angolo è una parete, realizzata in modo che sembrasse antica e sulla quale abbiamo voluto due specchi barocchi. E’ evocativa e calda.

Il vostro sogno di felicità
Che questo lavoro si evolva ancora, per poter comunicare attraverso quello che sarà un vero e proprio concept la nostra passione per l’arte, la letteratura, il design oltre che per la moda.

5 cose da fare a Milano
Fare un salto in Corso Como, presso la Galleria Sozzani (dove ci sono sempre delle bellissime mostre di fotografia), andare allo spazio Oberdan, per le rassegne di Cinema d’epoca, mangiare Sushi al Temakinho, andare a ballare al Tunnel al sabato per la serata Le Cannibale, passeggiare nei giardini Indro Montanelli, in Porta Venezia per poi rifugiarsi al Gam, una galleria di Arte Moderna meravigliosa.

Sine Modus was born out of the friendship between Chiara and Manuela, and a shared passion for vintage in 2012. Last October they opened their store Sine Modus Milano in Via Pomponazzi 22. The turbans Sine Modus are entirely handmade with fabrics from vintage or second-hand exclusive fabrics: skirts, shirts, clothes processed to become these gorgeous hats. The turban is a sophisticated and elegant accessory that is reminiscent of the Hollywood stars in the 70s and remains a must in every woman’s wardrobe.

Where did your passion for vintage fashion come from?
Our passion dates back to our childhood, when we both went to flea markets in Campania, where you can find some wonderful pieces, hidden gems, treasures of fabric, just poking out of huge pile of clothings sold by street vendor. Everything started from the “American pieces” (as they call them in Southern Italy). Then of course we researched, we examined the subject, and we made research in specialty stores, often in London.

What inspires you most?
We are inspired by uniqueness, elegance and personality.

How to wear a turban
There is no rule to wear a turban, it is always perfect, at any time of the day, with any style. It is an easy to wear accessory, just wear it with nonchalance, and it will go the extra mile making the difference.

Where do you find the fabrics for your turbans?
Our turbans are handmade by us in our workshop here in Milan and we use materials deriving from vintage pieces. It happens very often that old skirts, dresses, blouses with wonderful fabrics and patterns, a little spoiled or outdated in style, are given a new life.

If you had unlimited space what are the things you would collect?
Manuela definitely hats, and I’d collect jewels.

A macramé sheath, a shearling, a Borsalino hat, a jewel, a Burberry trench coat.

What past or maybe lost habits do you feel most nostalgic about?
I miss waking up in the house where I was born, in Paestum, where my parents are still living, waking up there means having breakfast with them and then go for a walk by the sea, simple gestures, but they feel your heart. Manu: “Sunday lunch at her maternal grandmother.

Where did you get the idea for your shop in Milan?
It was the natural evolution of our work carried out over the last two years on the social media and on our website. We needed a lab and a physical place where you can interact personally with your customers, as the exchange of opinions and values in person gives added value to our work.

Favourite corner of your shop
It’s more than just a corner, it’s a wall realized in a way that seems ancient and where we wanted two baroque mirrors. It’s evocative and warm.

What is your dream of happiness?
We want to improve our project, to be able to communicate through a real concept our passion for art, literature, design as well as for fashion.

Take a walk through the Corso Como’s racks and displays, Galleria Carla Sozzani worths a visit (there are always striking photo exhibits), visit Spazio Oberdan is the location for screenings and initiatives of the Fondazione Cineteca Italiana, eating Sushi at Temaquino, go dancing at the Tunnel on Saturday night for “Le Cannibale” event, take a stroll through the Indro Montanelli Public Gardens, in Porta Venezia and then visit GAM, a wonderful Gallery of Modern Art.

Valentina ama i cavalli e la campagna. Dopo aver lavorato nel mondo della moda, ha lasciato tutto per realizzare il suo sogno:le grenier de vivi.

Se amate le borse che ricordano le vecchie cartelle da scuola, i tessuti retrò e apprezzate il made in Italy, non potrete non amare le grenier de vivi!

Perchè hai creato “le grenier de vivi”?
Era un piccolo sogno che ho sempre avuto,ma non sono mai riuscita a dedicarmici totalmente per via del lavoro e del tempo a disposizione e poi un anno fa ho deciso di cambiare vita, ho lasciato Moschino, mi sono trasferita in campagna, ho scelto di dedicarmi ai cavalli e al mio sogno e così è nato le grenier de vivi.

Cosa ti ha insegnato la tua esperienza professionale da Moschino?
Sicuramente la cura del dettaglio, mai lasciare nulla al caso e la leggerezza e il divertimento anche in giornate infinite.

Qual è l’evento che ti ha cambiato la vita?
Direi l’incontro con i cavalli, da lì è nato un amore che dura da tutta la vita e che mi ha “riportato”dopo diverse esperienza affrontate sulla mia vera strada.

Cosa collezioni?
Non ne ho mai fatta una…

Dove trovi i tessuti?
Ho dei fornitori con cui lavoro da anni, fin da quando ero da Moschino, con cui mi trovo benissimo e so che all’occorrenza possono farmi rovistare nei loro archivi in cui amo perdermi.

Cosa ti ispira?
Parto sempre dalla ricerca tessuti, dal tatto, le sensazioni che mi danno nel toccarli e da lì l’ispirazione a creare una storia.

Cosa ami dei cavalli?
La loro sensibilità sono degli animali pazzeschi,istintivi poco confidenti, ma quando riesci a conquistare la loro fiducia il legame che si crea è unico, è un vero e proprio rapporto di complicità. Sono animali da 6 tonnellate se decidono di fare quello che vogliono non puoi niente contro di loro e pensare che, solo con le sensazioni e i movimenti del tuo corpo, riesci a guidarli è unico è una fiducia che loro ripongono totalmente in te. Ti si affidano totalmente per questo diventa un binomio perché non sei certo tu che li comandi da sola ma è una complicità e un affidarsi quello che ti porta a montarli e, come con le persone, non è che perché sai stare in sella puoi cavalcare qualsiasi cavallo, se non c’è affiatamento te ne accorgi e diventa un lavoro meccanico che non ti porta a nulla.

Che cosa ha a che fare la moda con la natura, la campagna e i cavalli?
E’ una passione unita alla decisione di seguire la mia strada e vivere la mia vita come ho sempre voluto, è diventato tutto naturale.

Arrivano tutti dal guardaroba di mia madre,una giacca da sera in tessuto laminato di Valentino,un cappotto di cachemire cammello fatto da un sarto a cui lei si affidava, una gonna e un top a fiori presi in un mercatino vintage di Parigi e una giacca fucsia con spalline molto anni 80!!

Valentina loves horses and the countryside. After having worked in the fashion industry, she left everything behind to realize her dream: le grenier de vivi. Why did you start “le grenier de vivi”?
I always had this little dream, but I couldn’t devote myself entirely to it due to work and time constraints. Then one year ago I decided to change my life: I left Moschino and moved to the countryside; I chose to devote myself to horses and to my dream, and that’s how “le grenier de vivi” began.

Where can we buy your collections?

What did your previous job at Moschino teach you?
Definitely an attention to detail, never leave anything to chance, and to bring a sense of lightness and fun even to days that never seem to end.

What event changed your life?
I would say when I first set eyes on horses. This sparked a lifelong love which has always brought me back to my true path even after several different experiences.

What do you collect?
I’ve never really collected anything.

Where do you find your fabrics?
I’ve been working with my suppliers for years, ever since I worked at Moschino. I have a very good relationship with them and I know that if I need to they’ll let me rummage through their archives where I love getting lost.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I always start by looking at the fabrics and their feel: the feelings I get when I touch them and this inspires me to create a story.

What do you love about horses?
Their sensitivity, they are wild, instinctive and shy animals, but when you gain their trust you will establish a special bond with them, a really close relationship. They weigh over 6 tonnes and if they decide to do what they want you can’t do anything about it, the only way you can lead them is with the feelings and movements of your body: it’s a unique trust they place in you. They completely rely on you and this becomes a kind of symbiosis because you’re not sure whether you alone are in control of them. It’s more of a complicity and trust which brings you to ride them and, as with people, just because you are able to sit on a saddle it doesn’t mean that you can ride any horse. You will soon realise if you’re lacking an understanding and it will become mechanical work that will bring you nothing.

What does fashion have in common with nature, the countryside and horses?
It’s a passion of mine that I have combined with my decision to follow my own path and live my life as I always wanted – It has become quite natural.

Tell us about 5 vintage pieces in your wardrobe.
They all come from my mother’s wardrobe: a Valentino’s evening jacket in laminated fabric, a camel cashmere coat made by her tailor, a skirt and a top with flowers bought in a flea market in Paris, as well as a fuchsia jacket with shoulder pads straight out of the 80s!!

Give us 5 things to do in Milan
Drink a glass of wine at Cantine Isola in Via Paolo Sarpi, try the rigatoni in tomato sauce at Vecchio Porco in Via Messina, spend an afternoon at the Planetarium located in the gardens of Porta Venezia, take a stroll through deserted Milan in mid-August or treat yourself to a real pampering at Bahanma Mama in Via Col di Lana for the perfect manicure, where you can also buy something vintage from their selection.

Pepe & Sale

Mentre i caldi colori autunnali stanno dipingendo il paesaggio, questo ottobre ci sta coccolando con temperature piacevolissime.

Così domenica mattina ci siamo alzati presto e siamo partiti per una delle nostre mini gite autunnali.

Siamo andati verso i Sibillini e la prima tappa è stata una fiera degli uccelli, per la felicità dell’ometto con abbinato mercatino dell’usato.

Entrambe le cose si sono rivelate del tutto prive di nota e così non abbiamo trovato nessun tesoro vintage e la quota degli animali nella nostra casa resta a due: Pepe e Sale i pesci rossi di mio figlio.

Ci siamo poi diretti verso Smerillo ovvero la Cittadella della poesia. Un piccolo borgo incantanto, di fronte ai Sibillini, immerso nella natura e nelle parole.

While the warm autumn colors are painting the landscape, October is spoiling us with pleasant temperatures. So Sunday morning we got up early and left on one of our fall mini-trips.

We drove up to the Sibillini Mountains and our first stop was a bird fair- for the happiness of my little man- matched with a flea market.
Both events proved to be completely uninteresting, we didn’t find any vintage treasures and the rate of animals in our house stays the same: my son’s two goldfish Pepper and Salt.

Then we headed to Smerillo the so called village of poetry. A small enchanted village, in front of the Sibillini Mountains, surrounded by nature and words.

In Love with Lazzari

Lazzari rappresenta esattamente tutto quello che vorrei nel mio guardaroba ora!

Le cappe, le monk strap, la salopette senape in velluto a costine e lo zaino in pelle.

Ah, dimenticavo il delizioso cappotto con le stelline.

Ma il mio amore per questo brand è stato indubbiamente rafforzato dal video della campagna FW 14-15.

“Diana+Diana”, questo il titolo del video, è ambientato in uno scenario anni ’60, con atmosfere da campeggio come nel film Moonrise Kingdom di Wes Anderson, e due ragazze che ricordano le gemelle Sharon e Susan de “Il cowboy con il vestito da sposa”.

Insomma il risultato delizioso di un mix tra le tonalità vintage del cinema di Wes e i rassicuranti classici della Disney.

Oh, and the lovely mohair wool coat with gorgeous silver leather stars.

But my love for this brand has undoubtedly been strengthened by the Fall-Winter 2014-2015 video campaign.

“Diana + Diana,” this is the title of the video, is set in a Sixties scenario, with a summer camp atmosphere like the movie Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson, and two girls reminding us the twins Sharon and Susan in “The Parent Trap. “

In other words, the gorgeous result of a mix between the vintage tones of Wes Anderson’s movies and comfort Disney movie classics.

Qualche giorno fa sono inciampata per caso in un documentario. La storia d’amore e d’avventura di Alfred & Jakobine.

Quaranta anni dopo, loro figlio Niels riprende le fila della loro storia, quando, a 84 anni, Alfred decide di restaurare il vecchio taxi e attraversare l’America per vedere Jakobine ancora una volta.

A few days ago I stumbled across a documentary film called Alfred & Jakobine: a story about love and adventure.

In the summer of 1955, Alfred and Jakobine fall in love in Japan, they get married and decide to travel the world in a a beat up taxicab for 7 years.

Shortly after their return to the United States, Alfred suddenly leaves Jakobine.

Forty years later, their son Niels picks up the threads of their story, when, at 84, Alfred decides to restore the old taxicab and travel across America to see Jakobine once again.

The official Alfred & Jakobine DVD is not yet available. I’ve pre-registered for one here, and you?

Una delle cose più belle di avere un blog è la possibilità di conoscere persone interessanti.

Qualche tempo fa una ragazza ha lasciato qui un dolcissimo commento. Mi sono incuriosita, l’ho contattata e ho scoperto che è una di quelle ragazze in gamba, che tanto stimo!

Cristiana Crisafi è creatrice e sviluppatrice di blog di stile e collabora con diverse testate online che si occupano di moda e nuove tendenze.

Lavora per un nuovo brand genovese di occhiali artigianali ed è l’autrice del libro “Vintage! Caccia al tesoro nel cassetto della nonna”.

Io l’ho letto e ve lo consiglio vivamente. Un must per chi ama il vintage e la moda!

Per conoscere meglio Cristiana leggete le sue risposte alle mie domande.

Com’è nata la tua passione per la moda vintage?
La mia passione per il vintage deriva da mia madre. Il suo guardaroba non è molto vintage, ma é lei che mi ha insegnato l’amore per le belle cose, gli abiti ben rifiniti e il buon gusto. Con queste premesse è stato facile avvicinarsi al vintage, visto che gli abiti delle epoche passate sono maggiormente curati nei dettagli e nelle stoffe. Con ciò non dico che gli abiti attuali siano sempre cuciti sommariamente o che i tessuti non siano pregiati, solo si lavora meno a mano e maggiore é l’uso di materiali sintetici.

Il decennio della moda che preferisci
L’epoca che preferisco va dalla fine degli anni ’40 all’inizio degli anni ’60. La forma del mio corpo si avvicina di più ai tagli di quell’epoca anche se il mio armadio è pieno zeppo di abiti a trapezio degli anni ’60! Predico bene e razzolo male!

Come nasce l’idea del tuo libro?
L’idea del libro non è nata da me, anche se da sempre ho la passione per la scrittura. Grazie a una rubrica su magazine on line di moda e ad un blog che curavo, la casa editrice mi ha contattata chiedendomi se volevo scrivere un libro sul vintage. Ho ovviamente accettato ed è stata una bellissima esperienza, soprattutto perché ho conosciuto tante persone che come me sono amanti del vintage.

5 pezzi vintage nel tuo armadio
Un vestito a fiori anni ’50, un paio di pantaloncini Levi’s a vita alta, un paio di jeans a zampa di elefante anni ’70 rubati a mia mamma, un Borsalino nero e un vestito di seta terra di siena anni ’60!

Nel tuo libro ci inviti ad osare mixando capi, colori e stili. Quali sono, secondo te, gli errori da evitare?

Il primo errore da evitare e anche quello che mi fa più drizzare i capelli è l’esagerazione. Alcuni abiti vintage hanno bisogno di essere mixati con capi moderni, perché il rischio più grosso che si corre è quello di sembrare mascherati. Bisogna stare attenti a non mischiare insieme capi di epoche troppo diverse, come ad esempio vestirsi anni venti con scarpe anni ’80! Ma la cosa più importante da tenere a mente é che non si deve acquistare un capo solo perché é bello, ma bisogna sentircisi a proprio agio in ogni circostanza.

Cosa cerchi quando vai ai mercatini?
Quando vago per i mercatini il mio sguardo viene sempre catturato da borse e accessori. Forse perché non sono affatto rapida nell’acquisto di un abito, devo provarlo più e più volte, pensare con che scarpe abbinarlo e via dicendo. Invece per quanto riguarda le borse non ho limiti: ne ho tantissime! Un rapido consiglio per i mercatini: fate conoscenza con il venditore, vi troverete più a vostro agio nell’acquisto e vi darà ottimi consigli utilissimi!

Cosa collezioni?
Non sono un’amante delle collezioni, ma l’unica cosa amo avere sono le locandine di vecchie fiere o mostre. Soprattutto quelle francesi!

Di quali abitudini passate e forse perse senti di più la nostalgia?
Delle feste di paese dove tutti ballano e indossano il vestito buono. I pranzi della domenica dove partecipa tutta la famiglia. La radio. Il cinema all’aperto sotto le stelle. Le piccole botteghe e gli abiti sartoriali, ma spero che almeno per questi ultimi si possa porre rimedio!

La tua wishlist vintage
Sono anni che cerco una gonna a ruota rossa e un tubino nero che sia perfetto per il mio corpo. Vorrei trovare (utopia) una borsa Chanel compatibile con le mie tasche ma mi accontenterei anche di una Kelly di Hermés! In ultimo un bellissimo trattore blu vintage!

5 cose da fare a Genova
Quando vengono persone da fuori a trovarmi, la prima cosa che faccio fare loro solitamente é una passeggiata serale in spianata Castelletto per vedere tutta Genova dall’alto. Un giro nei vicoli il sabato mattina, quando si fanno le compere nelle botteghe storiche per il pranzo. Un buon aperitivo sulla palafitta dei bagni S. Chiara. Una chiacchierata vintage con Andrea, proprietario di Man and the City e Boccadasse, con la compagnia di un buon amico o di un buon libro.

My curiosity got the better of me, I contacted her and found out that she is the kind of smart girls I admire! Cristiana Crisafi is the creator and developer of fashion and style blogs and collaborates with several fashion websites. She works for a new brand of handcrafted eyewear and is the author of the book ““Vintage! Caccia al tesoro nel cassetto della nonna”. I read it and I strongly recommend it. Where did your passion for vintage fashion come from?
My passion for vintage fashion comes from my mother. Her wardrobe does not have many vintage items, but she was the one who taught me to love beautiful things, refined clothes and good taste. With this background, it was easy to get into vintage fashion, since more attention was paid to detail and fabric in clothes of yesteryear. By this, I don’t mean that modern clothes are all poorly sewn and that the textiles are low-quality, but that people work less by hand and more synthetic materials are being used.

What is your favourite decade for fashion?
My favourite fashion period runs from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. My body shape works best with the styles of that time, even though my closet is packed full of A-line dresses from the 60s! I don’t practice what I preach!

Where did you get the idea for your book?
I didn’t come up with the idea for the book, even though I have always had a passion for writing. Thanks to my column in an online fashion magazine and a blog that I used to write, the publisher contacted me and asked if I wanted to write a book about vintage styles. I obviously accepted and it was a great experience, especially because I met so many people like me, who love vintage styles.

Tell us about 5 vintage pieces in your closet.
A 1950s floral dress, a pair of Levi’s high-waisted denim shorts, a pair of 1970s flared jeans stolen from my mother, a black Borsalino and a 1960s silk dark sienna dress!

In your book you invite us to be daring and mix items, colours and styles. In your opinion, what are the mistakes to avoid?
The first mistake to avoid which sends shivers down my spine is overstatement. Some vintage clothes need to be mixed with modern garments, because the biggest risk we run is to look like we’re in disguise. But you should be careful not to mix items from eras that are too diverse, such as dresses from the 20s with shoes from the 80s! But the most important thing to bear in mind is that you should not buy an item just because it’s beautiful, but rather you have to feel comfortable with it in all aspects.

What do you look for when you go to street markets?
When I wander through street markets my eye is always caught by bags and accessories. Maybe because I’m not quick at all when I buy a dress, I have to try it on over and over again, thinking about what shoes go with it and so on. But I don’t have any limits when it comes to bags: I have so many! Here’s a quick tip when going to markets: get to know the sellers, you’ll be more comfortable when making a purchase and they’ll give you great pieces of useful advice!

What do you collect?
I don’t love collecting, but the one thing I love to have are posters of old fairs or exhibitions, especially the French ones!

What past or maybe lost habits do you feel most nostalgic about?
Village fairs where everyone dances and wears their best dress. Sunday lunches with the whole family. The radio. Open-air cinemas under the stars. Small shops and tailored clothes, but I hope we can at least remedy the latter!

What’s on your vintage wish list?
For many years now, I’ve been searching for a full red skirt and a little black dress that is perfect for my body. I would like to find (in a perfect world) a Chanel bag which is within my budget, but I’d settle for a Hermès Kelly bag! Finally, a beautiful vintage blue tractor!

Give us 5 things to do in Genoa.
When people come to visit me, the first thing I usually do is take them on an evening stroll at the Castelletto esplanade which overlooks Genoa. Then a walk down the side streets on Saturday morning, when you can go shopping for lunch in the historic shops, followed by a good aperitif on the stilt houses at the Santa Chiara baths. Or have a chat about vintage styles with Andrea, the owner of Man and the City and Boccadasse, enjoying the company of a good friend or a good book.

Mercatino dell’antiquariato

Dopo anni di nomadismo anche noi finalmente abbiamo casa!!

Uno spazioso appartamento storico che richiede una profonda ristrutturazione.

Questo singifica che ho la mente affollata di mille idee, progetti e dubbi. Uno degli aspetti migliori di questa nuova avventura è che avrò un’ottima scusa per non perdermi i mercatini dell’antiquariato!

Mercoledì scorso siamo andati al mercatino dell’antiquariato di Visso, un delizioso paese delle Marche promosso come uno dei Borghi più belli d’Italia.

After some years of nomadism we finally bought a house!! It’s a spacious historical flat in need of a deep renovation. This means that my mind is crowded with thousands of ideas, projects and concerns. One of the best aspects of this new adventure is that I have a good excuse for not missing vintage markets and antique fairs! On Wednesday we went to the antique market in Visso, an enchanting village in Le Marche ranked as one of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages.
